I’m at AIM’s headquarters in Gainesville, Georgia. I got here Wednesday and will be here until Sunday. It’s sort of an annual tradition; I come about once a year to try and connect with some of my peers, show my face, get to know new staff, do everything I can to get involved in the World Race (please click the link to see exactly what the World Race is), and to meet and get to know the Racers.
I try to make my trip coincide with the training that AIM does for people who are going out on long-term AIM trips. The long-term trips last anywhere from nine months (First Year Missionaries) to eleven months (The World Race), but first they come to Georgia for two weeks of intense training.
The people going on these trips are incredible. Most of them are young (under 25) and they are leaving everything: cell phones, family, jobs, pets, cars, etc. for at least nine months. They know that they’re going to have a hard year, but they’re willing to do it anyway because they believe that God has called them out of themselves and to something greater. I highly recommend you read the blogs of people who are out on the race and of the people who are about to go. I challenge you to read them and not be convicted and inspired.
There’s also some pretty cool video. We’ve got a YouTube channel and a number of people who are uploading their own videos. Go here to see what’s happening at training with Brandon Headrick.
Just so you know, I’ve been pretty closely involved with the media on the race and have been working to coordinate all the video that comes in from the field. They email it to me, I screen it and post it on YouTube – cool ay?
Tomorrow: The Training…
