I read a great blog by Cameron Cary about watching a musical performance by a phenomenal musician. I started to add the following as a comment and realized that it was really a blog entry. So here it is...

My wife, Carla, is a professional pianist. She's one of those people who can play anything - if you can hum a few bars, she can fake it.

When I first met her, I was in awe of her ability to play and, as Cameron said so well, "become one with the music." At one point, I realized she was praying with her music. While some of us use words and thoughts to communicate with God, she also uses her music. For her, it translates, I think, to pure emotion and feeling. It wasn't until we had known each other for about ten years (I'm sure this is an exaggeration) before I was allowed to stay in the room while this was happening.

I have always felt privileged to be present when she does this.

Now, she plays like that in front of people all the time. The cool thing about this is that you can go to the throne room with her and experience a taste of heaven as you immerse yourself in the music.

Because of my observation of my wife, I've been able to recognize this, I think, in other musicians. What an honor; to be allowed a view into another person's intimate communication with God. What a gift that God has given us.
